Adjusting one step at a time

Hello world,My name is shadow and I am a nine year old Queensland Heeler from Arizona. True to my breed I am loyal, courageous, tireless, friendly, and possess a strong spirit and personality. As a herder everything must have its place and it’s my job to ensure this happens. It’s in my blood. On Valentines day 2014 my family welcomed a new puppy into the fold. Everything was going great, but then all of our lives changed on June 12, 2014. A sudden and unexpected spat in our fold resulted in a devastating injury to my leg and a fast moving infection resulted in having to have a surgical amputation of my right leg. We were all beyond a loss of words as we entered our darkest hours as a family unit. The guilt is immeasurable. Seeing my family after surgery, coming out of sedation..first kisses and hugs, reassuring pets and voices urged me on. I in return gave kisses and excited wags of my tail, thump thump. I am without one leg,but I have love and family. I am Shadow,a survivor,a tripod. However I am more than that. I am a loyal companion who’s spirit remains unbroken.

  1. Welcome Shadow and family. Sorry to hear about your accident, but Queenslands are tough and brave so I know you will be just fine. Don’t hurry to do it all at once. Major surgery takes awhile to recover from so it will take some time to get back into the swing. Don’t forget to let your family know accidents happen and it wasn’t their fault. Hugs to all of you and we’ll be watching for updates and pictures!

    Take care-

  2. Ohhhhh Shadow, I can hear it in your voice that you are going to kick butt during recovery and bounce right back. I’m so sorry about the accident, that had to have been so awful for everyone, I can’t imagine. But like all doggies, you and your packmates will just put that behind you and get on doing your job, I just know it.

Get well soon and do keep us posted, we want to see some pics too! Welcome.
